RESERVATION FEES
This year I have reserved 20 spots for three nights, which comes to a total of $91. This includes the entrance fee ($35), 3 nights camping fee ($17x3= $51), and the environmental fee ($5). As of right now, all 20 spots are claimed for.
GAS COSTS
You will also need to plan on bringing money to pitch in for gas. For those participating in the big group carpool, the total cost round trip is $30. Those just going one way up, it is $20.
MULES (optional)
You may also want to consider bringing enough money to chip in for a mule to carry your pack out. It's $93.50 for a mule. A mule can carry up to four packs, so it's about $24 if split with 3 other people, otherwise you will need to make up the difference. Mules have to be reserved at least one day in advance. Be smart and plan ahead of time! It is best to work this out before the hike in. Otherwise you will have to hike the 2 miles back from the campgrounds to the village at least by Saturday before we hike out. If you're interested in having your gear packed in as well, you will want to contact the office and schedule that. That will mean, you will need to stay at the hilltop Wednesday night to turn in your pack at 7am Thursday morning before beginning your hike in.
HELICOPTER (optional)
It's also a good idea to bring a credit card or cash for a possible helicopter ride out if needed. It costs about $85 one way. I had to take it two different years due to ankle sprains, so you never know. Of course you don't have to be injured to take it. I've taken it in just for fun. It was a great way to start out. :)
